I had heard about this from a friend but never used it it looks nice... responses better then the other Indian Railway online systems.(please IRCTC needs to get some speed tuning).
Anyways the below links might help and i would be traveling from Bangalore to Chennai shortly so would let you know if the times at each station matched of its all updated according the the Evil Ticket Conductors (just kidding the TC's are nice read the story below)
To track trains using Train Number/ Train Name / Select a Station the train stops at in the next 2 to 4 hours use http://www.trainenquiry.com/SearchTrain.aspxTo check if there are any special trains that are arrained for a national or religious event use http://www.trainenquiry.com/liveupdates/SpecialTrains.aspx
To check if your trains canceled and why or if some problem is there for a arriving train use
http://www.trainenquiry.com/TrainException/ExceptionalTrains.aspx
Oh yeah... ticket or no ticket or Tatkal ticket. Always travel with a valid Identity Card it helps trust me... (No printout of ticket, Couldn't find the SMS/text message on my phone. TC says "All i need is you name on a government issued Identity card if you misplaced your ticket." Showed him my drivers license and got home with no trouble or fines. True story
